This Glam, Practical And Welcoming Family Home in Utah Features A Seriously Stylish Blue Kitchen
This family home strikes a perfect balance of glam, practical and welcoming; brass detailing in almost every room give it glamour, while details like washing machines in the dressing room add functional practicality, and cosy details like banquette seating in the light blue kitchen make it welcoming and family-friendly.
PROPERTY
This modern home was built in 1986 and was in an extremely tired and dated condition when the home owners bought it. They hired interior designer Alice Lane who completely transformed the property from top to bottom, and the house is unrecognisable to what it was before. The property needed complete gutting, and the renovation took around 10 months—from taking down walls to adding a fireplace in the library to converting the guest room upstairs into a dressing room. The only part of the home that remained was the original staircase, which Alice Lane painted a dramatic black.
ENTRANCE HALL
The entrance to the home is up some steps at the front of the house. Once inside, a marble checkered floor and wood panelled walls provide a hint of tradition, while more contemporary furnishings like the console table, table lamp and pendant light add modern glamour. The balustrade and staircase is painted in a dramatic gloss black.

LIBRARY
The library space is wallpapered in a dark grasscloth, simultaneously creating drama and cosiness.
The room is a textured, layered space, with a zebra printed cowhide layered over a vintage rug, a mix of cushions leaning against a sheepskin and a throw, and a squishy leather ottoman used as a coffee table.

LIVING ROOM
The living room is a light and elegant space, while still being family friendly.
There are subtle touches of animal print everywhere, from the Bambi-style cushions to the snakeskin print tray and a studded crocodile style coffee table.

KITCHEN
The kitchen is a gorgeous blend of soft blues and marble, with matt brass accents. A lighter shade of blue was favoured for the cabinets over the more popular navy styles, and the effect is a friendly, relaxed yet elegant look.

An informal kitchen diner is at the end of the kitchen island, with built-in banquette seating.
Brass detailing from the kitchen cabinets is repeated in the range cooker, wall lights and pendant lights, making the scheme come together. Black from the kitchen island comes back in the dining table and dining chairs.

MASTER BEDROOM
The heron shaped table lamp and the old portrait that's balanced on the headboard offer playful details to this grown-up space. The grey velvet upholstered headboard is inviting and adds a softer texture to balance out the mirrored side tables.
The master bedroom leads through to a dressing room, with its very own washer and dryer. It feels a very interior designed space, thanks to the painted ceiling, painted floor to ceiling cabinetry and the pretty blinds that incorporate both colours. A bust on the vanity table offers a fun way to hang jewellery.

MASTER BATHROOM
Marble and metallic accents help give this spa-like bathroom a glamorous feel. A potted plant, fabric blind and a pendant light also help to give this bathroom a more luxe look.
A brass open shelving unit is a glam way to store towels and trinkets.
A green marble sits snugly in the shower, and can be used as a shelf or a seat.
