Gorgeous Blue Kitchen Ideas And Inspiration
One of the strongest style trends that has come through in modern kitchen designis the colour blue, and this can be traced from classic Shaker-style kitchensright through to chic and minimal modern spaces.Whether it's on walls, floors, cabinetry or splashbacks, blue has replaced grey as the go-to on-trend colour - and it is particularly navy blue kitchens that are turning heads at Livingetc HQ.
Although in all its shades blue is considered to be a cool and calming, the variation you choose will govern the vibe of your space. To create a luxe and dramatic kitchen, choose blue-black or dark navy - this works particularly well with brass kitchen handles and a statement brass tap. For a softer, coastal-inspired scheme, look at soft sky blue hues. For a modern twist, bring inindustrialstyle with factory style taps and poured concrete flooring and worktops.

Wall Art
A framed triptych above the sink adds funk, and is illuminated by wall lights.
Curved Edge
Beata Heuman painted a curved egde around her built in kitchen cupboard. Get the look: This is the Dodo Egg pendant from Beata Heuman's online shop
Brass Touch
This kitchen is a gorgeous blend of soft blues and marble, with matt brass accents. A lighter shade of blue was favoured for the cabinets over the more popular navy styles, and the effect is a friendly, relaxed yet elegant look.
Blue and Marble
A marble splash back behind the hob complements the marble-topped kitchen island, while the industrial-inspired brass kitchen taps add to an overall cool, on-trend look. The kitchen island pendants are kept simple, sculptural and white.
Cheerful Colour
This kitchen cabinetry, painted in Farrow & Ball’s Down Pipe and gleaming with marble and mirror, is the key piece to this kitchen. The oversized skylight over the island lets in maximum light.
Smokey Blue
Textures are key in this kitchen design, with the island topped with slabs of salvaged iroko wood, which were science-lab worktops in a previous life. There’s even a bit of smutty graffiti scratched into one edge. The smokey blue paint shade on the cabinetry works with the marble worktops and brass splashback, but to balance the look a row of lacy glass pendants from Retrouvius was added, preventing it from looking too masculine. Get the look: Units, deVOL; in Studio Green by Farrow & Ball. Reclaimed iroko worktop and glass pendants, all Retrouvius. Architecture, Ibbotson Architects.
Industrial Style
The kitchen worktop is white marble, with cabinets in a vibrant blue and shelves made from wooden planks with rough-textured bark edges. Get the look: Kitchen marble worktop and splashback from Granite & Marble UK. Kitchen cabinets from IKEA.
Yves Klein
Cabinets painted a bold, matt Yves Klein-style blue bring an otherwise pared-back kitchen to life. The bespoke, industrial wall shelving set against a clean backdrop of Carrara marble and white tiles lends a lightness to the space.
Subtle
The blue in this kitchen feels subtle and neutral. Floating shelves located above the worktop help accentuate the height of the new extension.
Paired Back Rustic
Here, wood worktops, painted brickwork and an industrial style tap and pendants offer a rustic contrast to this dark blue shade. The standout island worktop was crafted from reclaimed parquet flooring, while two structural beams became the perfect spots from which to hang lighting and a display shelf. Get the look: The bespoke kitchen was built by Gregos Builders and is painted in Farrow & Ball’s Black Blue estate eggshell. The pendant lamps are vintage German Bakelite found at Sunbury Antiques Market. This is the Grottesco tap from Stockholm-based company Tapwell.
Off The Wall
In this kitchen blue was used on the walls and inside the kitchen island, while cabinets were kept white. The kitchen sink, built into a recess, keeps the island clutter free… and dry! Get the look: The kitchen units were designed and made by Meson’s. The Wrong for Hay Revolver bar stools came from The Conran Shop. The Newgate kitchen clock is from Occa-Home. The Stanley pendant light is by Original BTC.
Powder Blue
A special shade of powdery Slate Blue from Paint & Paper Library was chosen because it adds a softness that black or grey units couldn’t achieve. Livingetc also loves the modern design details – from the beaten silver cabinet handles to the mirror-back glazed units. Tom Dixon lights over the island are a stylish alternative to a cooker hood. A zinc breakfast bar was created as somewhere to eat and as a way to extend the scale of the unit to fit the size of the room. Get the look: This is an original Hand Painted kitchen by Smallbone. The island is painted in Slate IV architects eggshell; and the cabinets in BTWN Dog & Wolf architects eggshell, both by Paint & Paper Library. The work surface is Misty Carrera Caesarstone. These are Pam bar stools by Claudio Dondoli and Marco Pucci for Ligne Roset. These are Tom Dixon’s Melt pendants. The sofa is by Designers Guild.
Industrial Style
The exposed brick wall and canary yellow bar stools give a kick of modernity to a classic Shaker style look, while the brass handles complement the blue cabinets perfectly. The bar stools break up the navy colour scheme and help define the dining space. Get the look: This is a Devol kitchen. The stools are from Vintage Industrial Metal. The pendant is from Industville. The Palm Prints are from French Connection Home.
Blue & Brass
This dark blue shade really stand out and the colour is timeless. The vintage pendants subtly echo the aqua shades of the collectable ceramics, while the brass drawer pulls offer a warm contrast to the dramatic shade. Get the look: The kitchen is by Woodwork Traditional Handmade Furniture, painted in Railings estate eggshell by Farrow & Ball.
Pair With White
The kitchen is chic and simple, with plenty of marble to add a natural yet sophisticated element, and to offer a lighter contrast against the blue cabinets and kitchen island frame. The brass footrest, bar stools and taps add a punch of warmth and glamour. Get the look: The cabinetry is bespoke by Studio DB with a La Cornue range cooker. Mandarin Stone can supply similar marble. The pendants are from Crate & Barrel. These are Sable stools by Ochre.
Teal Appeal
Teal is an unusual choice for a kitchen but it works well here as the white walls keep it from being overbearing. The space is dominated by the jaw-dropping faux olive tree, which seems to have taken root within the Corian-clad island. LED lighting was cleverly incorporated into the apex of the kitchen’s roof, accentuating the height of the space. Get the look: The Esteril Siusi faux-timber porcelain flooring is from Eurotiles & Bathrooms.
Retro Look
A bold striped tiled wall give this galley kitchen a Seventies edge. Concrete worktops and on-trend blue cabinets keep it from looking dated. Get the look: The kitchen was designed by Rory Robertson. The cabinetry is painted in Chia oil eggshell by Bert & May, which also supplied the concrete fittings. The wall and splash back are clad in Pesadilla tiles by Bert & May. The Danish table and chairs are from Béton Brut.
Accent Colour
Plain walls, simple tiling and white worktops really make the blue cabinetry pop. The kitchen is a bespoke design, painted a deep blue-black and treated with a matt varnish. The tiles have the look of old cement tiles but are actually porcelain. Get the look: Tiles, European Heritage. Kitchen painted in Railings, Farrow & Ball.
Brick Wall
The exposed brick wall gives a kick of vibrancy to the dark cabinetry. Get the look: This is a Devol kitchen.
