Happy shopping!

What Should I Buy in the Presidents' Day Sales?

Livingetc knows design. We spend hours testing and comparing the latest products, bringing only our edit of the very best to you. Find out more about how we review.

I'm an interiors editor, but even I'm guilty of buying some things just for the sake of it if they've got a good discount. So, I have a little rule of thumb when it comes to sale shopping to try and curb unnecessary shopping compulsions. It starts by asking two questions: 'was I going to buy it anyway?' and 'will I still be using it this time next year?'

With these questions in mind, here are some of the best areas to shop in these sales, not only for avoiding shopper's remorse, but also where you'll save the largest amount of money.

Best Buys Under $50

We've done some serious scrolling and found some beautiful bits for your home under $50, so you can give your home a mini update for an affordable price.

Best Cookware Deals

High-end, often cast iron cookware can last a lifetime if you treat it right, but it's not a cheap investment. However, during the Presidents' Day sales, you'll find $100s of dollars off the likes of Le Creuset, Staub and more.

Best Furniture Deals

Furniture isn't usually a compulsive buy, as you don't generally need 6 extra dining chairs in your house for no good reason. When it comes to shopping the sales, you may, however, need to make quick decisions, so when it comes to something like a new sofa you may be better to test your purchase in a real showroom first before checking out the couch deals online.

The likes of dining chairs, tables, benches and storage are, however, all fair game for a quick buy in the Presidents' Day sales.

Best Plates and Glasseware Deals

Dinnerware is another buy that often comes down to: do I actually need it? If you're on the hunt for a new set, whether for everyday or special occasions, you'll find some of the best dinnerware sets on sale right now.

You could also use it as an excuse to invest in some extras that offer some wow factor when entertaining. Colorful drinking glasses are a big trend right now, and there are lots of them to be found in the sales.

Best Bed Linen Deals

Bed linen is another thing I think it's worth shopping in the sales. Quality bedding, on the whole, tends to be more timeless in design, meaning you're not investing in flash-in-the-pan trends that you'll later regret. Shopping bedding in the sales means your budget can stretch a little further, and you can invest in greater quality sheets, without worrying too much about which designs are on discount.

Best Designer Homeware Deals

A designer decor piece can really bring something extra to your space. Whether it's a small ornament, or some serving ware for special occasions, these pieces tend to stand out - whether it's an especially unique design or just the quality of the materials.

Look in the sales sections for retailers who stock these designer pieces around the Presidents' Day sales, and you might just be able to pick up something very special.

Best Countertop Appliances

Countertop appliances don't always have the biggest discounts for Presidents' Day, but we've already found a few steals on some of the more design-led appliances we think Livingetc readers would appreciate in this year's sales.

What are the best deals in Wayfair's Presidents' Day Sales?

Wayfair goes big on its Presidents' Day sales, so it's a great spot to pick up a deal if you're shopping for furniture or decor right now. There's a lot of scrolling to do on Wayfair to find what you want, but I've cherrypicked some of my favorite pieces at great, discounted prices.

When is Presidents' Day 2024?

Presidents' Day is celebrated every third Monday of February, meaning that it falls on February 19th this year. Retailers usually offer discounts a few days before running up to the day itself, so that you can celebrate the holiday in style, but much like the Black Friday sales, this is getting earlier and earlier each year, and some retailers have already launched their deals now.

What is the meaning of Presidents' Day?

Presidents' Day is a holiday that celebrates all persons that have served in the office of the President, though there is a focus on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, who were both born in February. It's a state holiday in most states.
