The property
When you move into a new home, no matter how perfect it may be, the first thing you are itching to do is put your own stamp on it. So when the owners of this beautiful new-build modern home in Texas, stepped through the door, they instantly wanted to transform it into something that felt more like them. And with the help of Etch Design Group, they took this (albeit stunning) shell and transformed it into a modern, rustic, Spanish-style home...
Kitchen
If you love modern rustic, country kitchens, be prepared to feel some serious house envy, or inspiration, depending on how you look at it... The high beamed ceilings would be just as at home in a rural Spanish farmhouse, but the dark stain gives it a contemporary edge and is the perfect contrast for the white cabinetry and marble countertops.

The kitchen island and matching wall cabinets bring those lovely wooden tones of the ceiling down to eye level, warming up the space and giving the kitchen more of a country feel. The striking, oversized pendant lights are the perfect balance between modern and traditional – as is all the decor throughout the home – they add some clean lines to the soft space but don't look too stark or out of place.
A runner, with lovely muted hues, adds just the right amount of color to this otherwise neutral space and breaks up, as well softens, the expanse of stone flooring. And from this angle, you can see how the kitchen opens out into a dining nook, with those large windows flooding the room with light and providing stunning views.
Dining area
The rustic furniture used in the dining room mirrors the wood of the cabinetry in the kitchen, as does the pendant light which matches the pair above the island so you feel that connection between the two rooms.
The artwork and the rug, along with the very minimalist layout, are what give this room its more contemporary feel. Plus, because the space isn't crammed with lots of furniture, it doesn't block any light from streaming into the kitchen.
Living area
The main living area that leads on from the kitchen has a more modern feel, with a cool-toned color scheme, low slung furniture and lots of clean lines. You still get that slight rustic feel thought, with the wooden beams and huge open fireplace.
The dark wood can be found in the living room too – with simple floating shelves that a carefully curated to match the minimalist aesthetic and a built-in cabinet (perfect for keeping the space clutter-free).
Master bedroom
The master bedroom, and the second floor as a whole, is where you start to see some color. But just hints of pinks and blues that still fit with the rustic feel of the home.
The large pink-toned area rug has hints of deep blue that are reflected in the sheets and throw pillows – it's just the right amount of color for the room to feel fun and fresh but without interfering with the modern farmhouse aesthetic.
A cozy seating nook in the bedroom tones down the brighter colors with dark brown leather armchairs and grey pouf. And just look at the lovely chandelier, blending in a touch of country-style. The views aren't so bad either...
Guest bedrooms
Pinks and blues continue into both guest bedrooms. We love the printed curtains in this bedroom, the colors feel vivid and modern but the floral pattern is the perfect nod to a more traditional style.
A more minimalist feel in the second guest bedroom, but the iron bedstead still brings a touch of country charm.
Powder room
Cole and Son's Piccadilly wallpaper looks almost like tiles in the powder room. Despite not being a huge space, the dark wall and the busy pattern, plus of course the large mirror, really expands the room.
Girl's bedroom
What little girl wouldn't dream of this bedroom? A delicate floral pink wallpaper, a matching pink rug and of course a double bunk bed.

Nursery
The nursery has a lovely soothing feel (exactly what you want for a baby's bedroom!) with the cool tone grey and soft pinks and blues. A floor-to-ceiling curtain runs all the way along the large window, so nap times can go uninterrupted.
