An array of hydrangeas, hollyhocks, irises, chrysanthemums, and morning glory jostles amidst a verdant lattice of branches, with inquisitive sparrows, warblers, pheasant and egrets interspersed throughout, offering a welcome dose of whimsy. Honouring specific instruction from Erdem that the birds appear especially full of life, they appear darting through foliage, taking flight and energetically craning their necks.

The exclusive collection features limited edition wallpaper prints alongside whimsical, floral and floaty clothing pieces, perfectly poised for warmer and jollier days ahead.
Erdem Moralioglu –a designer celebrated for a signature expression of halcyon romance – created the new hand painted design for wallpaper and as a fabric for a line of his elegant silhouettes, deftly pairing the realms of fashion and interiors.

Since debuting his eponymous label in 2005, the London-based fashion designer continuously presents romance and whimsy with his collections season after season, from ornate floral column dresses to embroidered coats. The designer has long drawn on inspiration from the botanical world, and looked to flora and fauna for his de Gournay collaboration.

'I approached this collection like I would a ready-to-wear collection, beginning with researching fabrics and textiles,' Moralioglu explained. 'Although this time, it was my own archive I found myself looking through—and sharing them with the de Gournay team, who then produced large-scale sketches for me to review. What followed was an organic back-and-forth as we shared ideas and sketches and amendments as we developed the design together.'

The result is a selection of wallpaper that depicts bucolic scenes of sinuous shrubs and trees, interspersed by a lattice of Chinoiserie-inspired branches with blooming flowers and perching birds, all set against brightly coloured and sorbet-hued backdrops. Blending into its surroundings are long flowing dresses with billowy sleeves and gauzy separates that were all cast in winding prints of flora and fauna.
The SS20 collection seamlessly combines the exquisite character of both brands, with de Gournay’s first executions of wallpaper in ‘Golden Yellow’, ‘Adam Grey’ and a ‘Kelly Green’ painted to join their iconic Chinoiserie collection.
Individually hand-painted, each bespoke wallpaper is printed either on silk or gold leaf paper (carefully curated with two brushes – a nod to the traditional, thousand-year-old technique of chinoiserie).

But this is not the first time the haute couture wallpaper brand has teamed up with a like-minded fashion brand; in 2017, Italian luxury shoe brand Aquazzura released a collection of footwear with de Gournay, together with a collection of matching wallpapers.
