A 70s-inspired, modern Cape Cod style home in Los Angeles
This home is far from bland, with 70s inspired shapes, warm brass accents and a moody colour palette.
PROPERTY
A 70s-inspired, Cape Cod-style modern home in Los Angeles. The owners, a Los Angeles-based model and a retired race car driver formerly located in Monaco for many years, asked designer Stefani Stein to help them create their first home together.
This property was the first home that the engaged couple would live in together, which inspired Stefani to cohesively meld the differing design styles that they each desired. A Cape Cod-style home, Stefani wanted to create a design that both complemented the original architecture and incorporated the overall moodier, earth-toned, and vintage aesthetic that the couple wished to achieve. To do so, Stefani left the white millwork as-is, and implemented darker-toned walls and bold textiles and textures to the master bedroom, dining room and living room. Stefani also selected comfortable, yet eclectic furniture that mirrored the 70’s, vintage style that the couple had in mind.

DINING ROOM
In the dining room, olive green walls are offset by white wood panelling below dado height. Furnishings are a textural feast, with a 3D carved surface on the sideboard, and modern cane dining chairs upholstered in velvet.
The pops of brass of the dining table and statement dining lighting are complemented by the brassy tones of the artwork.

HALLWAY

LIVING ROOM
Olive walls are swapped for soft sage in the formal living room. Curved sofas and a fluff sheepskin bench give softness, while the angular wooden coffee tables add modern lines and intrigue.
A framed photo of David Bowie hangs above a spare dining chair in the living room.
