Trending: Sage green kitchens
Sage green kitchens are cool, contemporary and envy-inducing
Sage green kitchens are fast becoming one of the biggest kitchen trends for 2021. Whether its paint, cabinetry or tiles, the hue is popping up everywhere – so look no further if you’re on the hunt for modern kitchen inspiration.
Instagram is awash with sage advice, including from cult designer Matilda Goad, who chose the green hue as the backdrop for her kitchen cupboards.
Sage green echoes the renewable trend and conjures up feelings of being in nature. Catharina Bjorkman, lifestyle expert at Contura, explains “it provides a sense of bringing the outdoors in, and studies show that immersing yourself in nature is good for wellbeing.”
Sage green is the biggest new neutral for 2021, according to Emily Smith, Trend Curator at notonthehighstreet. She says “it works harmoniously with other trending colours such as butter yellows, dusky lilacs and peony pinks for a look that is soothing and timeless, inspired by the charm of rural living.”
Here are some examples of how to embrace one of the biggest kitchen trends for 2021.
The cupboard doors in designer Matilda Goad's newly renovated kitchen are painted in Sage Green, from Little Greene. They are fitted with a mix of vintage brass handles, some from an old ship. The colour on the walls is a lime wash, which conjures up the tone of gorgeous setting plaster, called Almond Flower from Bauwerk.
Sage tiles pair with blush pink cabinetry to evoke a fresh, modern feel. When used as paint in a matte finish, the gray-green tone can mean you compromise on texture, which can work well if you want a rustic feel. But by opting for sage tiles instead of paint the overall feel is energetic and zingy, especially when teamed with a baby blue sink, bright accessories and the brushed silver Quooker tap.
Statement scallop tiles from Topps Tiles (called Syren Fresh Sage Tile, £0.91 per tile) are paired with blue shaker cabinetry and marble countertops in this modern kitchen. Metallic accents and statement chairs add interest. Harriet Goodacre, Topps Tiles interiors expert, says the appeal of sage is not only down to it's freshness - which reflects the zeitgeisty demand for nature and all things plant based - but also its warm, heritage feel.
This show-stopping sage kitchen from Life Kitchens shows what you can achieve by boldly embracing 2021's hottest kitchen hue. The soothing tone is given a raw edge with the industrial metal and wood shelves, and crittall doors, with the luxe addition of marble countertops. This colour is called Regiment Matt, and would work just as well teamed with pastels or gold.
