The House of Gucci villa is listed on Airbnb – here are 5 style lessons we’re stealing for ourselves
The Lake Como jewel, Villa Balbiano, is a maze of ornate design ideas that are equally as fashionable as the film
Villa Balbiano, the backdrop for Ridley Scott’s film House of Gucci, is now available to book on Airbnb. And we’re very excited.
The estate, which is the site of the Gucci family patriarch (and acts as Aldo Gucci’s home in the film), epitomizes ‘90s Italian opulence – featuring six lavish suites and gardens created by the British Society of Garden Designers. However, you don’t need an airplane ticket to experience its allure.
Instead, we’ve rounded up five modern decorating ideas from the Lake Como icon that you can recreate at home. It is perhaps the only fitting celebration for the launch of the high-fashion film of the season. Here’s everything you need to know.
1. Play with mirrored panels
Despite its grand square footage, Villa Balbiano uses one of the most trusted tools in the design world: mirrors. The art of using mirrors to accentuate the size of a space is among the most practiced secrets in the industry – and it is similarly showcased in the villa’s luxe bathroom.
To recreate this modern bathroom idea, cover your primary surfaces with mirrors that reflect the room’s light – to give the space a regent aesthetic that will struggle to go out of style.
2. Trust symmetry – for timeless style
Villa Balbiano is a trove of late-twentieth-century features – however, some design elements remain timeless – including the rule of symmetry. The living room above celebrates the ageless aesthetic of perfect symmetry through its decorative furnishings and wall art – all of which are separated by a statement chandelier. This is the House of Gucci, after all.
3. Turn your headboard into a focal point
Looking for headboard ideas? Think Villa Balbiano. Evidently, headboards are the high-fashion staple of the interiors world.
While headboards always knew how to make a statement, this bedroom has taken it one step further by drenching the headboard and bedsheets in deep magenta against a neutral-hued backdrop. This dramatic feature is one that is House of Gucci-approved – and who can dispute this taste?
4. Stack your chandeliers
The only thing more ornate than one chandelier is a chandelier stack (crowned with a larger chandelier, naturally).
Yes, Villa Balbiano has accelerated elegance through its exhibition of stacked glass fixtures that sit unconventionally on the sideboard – rather than hanging exclusively from the ceiling. This feature is not for the faint of heart and is guaranteed to act as a talking point for all who pass through your home – and that’s what makes it so irresistible.
5. Reverse your room
Just as the House of Gucci rewrote traditional design conventions with its stacked chandeliers – this unorthodox ambiance continues into the bedroom. Here, the room appears almost ‘reversed’ as the bold print appears on the floor – while the walls remain neutral. The fabulous flooring idea is amongst the most notable in the home, and we expect it will catch on for the seasons ahead.
The Airbnb host is offering a special, one-night stay on 30th March 2022. This includes a space for 2 in the master suite, with access to Villa Balbiano’s lavish amenities. The listing, which costs €1,000 euros per night, is available for booking on 6th December at 5 pm (GMT).
