Limited-Edition Wishbone Chair Launched For Birthday Tribute
In honour of what would have been Hans J. Wegner's 104thbirthday on the 2nd April, his iconic CH24 Wishbone Chair has been given a new look byCarl Hansen & Søn, which has launched a very limited edition version in Ancient Oak.
To produce the commemorative edition, new oak was transformed and fashioned to replicate theunique qualities of rare ancient oak wood – its millennium-old counterpart.
Crafted from oak that has been specially treated to recreate the warm, dark brown hue of thousand-year-old bog oak, this is the first time that the chair is available in this finish.
This super limited editionwill only be available between the 2ndand 3rdApril 2018, with a brass plate engraved with Wegner's signature and a certificate of authenticity.
The limited edition chair will be available to buy online and in The Conran Shop’s London and Paris stores until 3rdApril, with each piece subsequently made-to-order.
With this special-edition Wishbone Chair, Carl Hansen & Søn add yet another chapter to the story of the unique collaboration between furniture designer and manufacturer – a story that began nearly seven decades ago.
Wegner first designed the Wishbone Chair, known for its distinctive wishbone-shaped backrest, in 1949, and 70 years later it continues to be an ever-current style statement in modern homes around the world.
Together, Carl Hansen & Søn and Wegner created a series of furniture classics and collectors’ items. The Wishbone Chair, or CH24, was one of the first five chairs Wegner designed for Carl Hansen & Søn, alongside the CH22, CH23, CH25 and CH26. With its strong, graphic expression, advanced elements, and complex design, the Wishbone Chair quickly gained iconic status, and has been instrumental in cementing Wegner’s position as a leading figure in Danish furniture design history.
