Studio Ashby launches debut furniture collection
Interior designer Sophie Ashby has added a new success to her design repertoire; a gorgeous collection of show-stopping furniture – and we're just a little bit obsessed.
The debut collection, entitled Piece By Piece, is part of The Invisible Collection, and marks the first ever British designer to be represented by the furniture emporium.
Launched in 2016 asan online showcase for rare and unique pieces by esteemed French and internationalinterior designers, The Invisible Collection alreadyfeatures the work of more than 40 architects and designers worldwide. Now, for the first time a British designer – rising star Sophie Ashby – has been invited into the mix.
Ashby’s collection comprises 17 pieces including mohair dining benches (the Chubby Bench is priced from £2,810), an acrylic Yves Klein blue inspired console table (£16,965), and a raw-edged Block-Face vanity mirror (£1,780).
The pieces are crafted from a variety of materials ranging from acrylic to jesmonite, steel to marble, shearling to burr elm timber.
A key feature of Studio Ashby’s work is to blend opposing elements; the raw with the refined, natural with manmade, neutrals with colours, the minimal with the rich, the expected and the surprising.
It's these playfuljuxtapositions and layering that define this gorgeous furniture collection.
Take the Stumpy Coffee table, for example, that pairs rustic log, bark still intact, with a clean, clear glass top.
Studio Ashby's Piece by Piececollection draws inspiration from art, nature and the places Sophie travels to. From the works of Yves Klein to Jean Arp, the Japanese Kyoto gardens of Holland Park to the colours of the Karoo, the lines of Modernist simplicity to the shape of a Leopard’s foot, inspiration for this collection has come from all over.
The Invisible Collection is thefirst websiteto access a previously private inventory of furniture creations by revered international designers. This means once one-off pieces initially created forspecific spaces can now be snapped up by the rest of us – with just a click of a button.
Each pieceis madeto order, making each one unique. Of course, with prices like £15,620 for the Leopard Foot Dressing Table and £20,760 for a bed, that's some pretty dangerous online shopping territory.
