Roksanda rocks interiors at Gasholders London
Known for her dramatic style, the fashion designer, Roksanda Illincić has applied her flair and finesse to a bold curated space in The Penthouse at Gasholders London – a luxury development, built within a refurbished triplet of Grade II-listed, cast iron gasholder guide frames in London’s King’s Cross.
With her background in applied arts and architecture, Roksanda has brought her artistic and dramatic aesthetic to the three-bedroom duplex penthouse. The result is a beautiful play on her signature sculptural form, textural depth and unusual colour combinations.
An elegant blend of furniture, art, ceramics, books and objet, within the apartment highlights Roksanda’s passion for diverse disciplines in design and the arts from a female perspective.
With visual themes throughout the space, Roksanda has brought to attention the work of female makers, past and present. Murals, artwork and textiles by Paris based artist Caroline Denervaud act as backdrops for furniture by Lina Bo Bardi and Charlotte Perriand.
Objet and ceramics include works by Australian ceramicist Alana Wilson, Berlin-based potter Christine Roland and Londoner Annette Lantsoght.
Postmodern and Mid-century modern pieces are peppered throughout – a dining table by Angelo Mangiarotti and Pierre Jeanneret chairs from the 1950s are carefully sourced finds that come as second nature to the designer.
Textiles created by Kvadrat cover a Cordemeijer Cleopatra daybed in the Sun Room and colourful bespoke upholstered beds, which have added texture fromLena Rewell’s merino wool blankets.
Considered lighting appears in the form of a graphic Francois Châtain Floor Lamp which contrasts with an undulating, bulbous ceramic sculpture by Enylee Parker and twisting ribbon lamps by Claire Norcross.
Each of the nine penthouses at Gasholders has its own roof garden, created by RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold-medal winning landscape architecture practice, Dan Pearson Studio, with views of King’s Cross and beyond.Roksanda worked with Suzanne Wallgren on a bespoke garden design for the rooftop of the apartment.
The Penthouse sits over three floors, with a double-height sunken courtyard garden and a private roof garden with views of Coal Drops Yard, London’s newest shopping and dining district in King’s Cross and – sharp intake of breath – it's available to buy fully-furnished for £7,750,000.
