New Designers 2018: Meet The Designers Of Tomorrow
Opening on Wednesday 27th June 2018, the New Designers exhibitionwill gather more than 3,000 of the brightest and most radical new creative minds and emerging artists under one roof.
From ceramics, illustrations, interior design, furniture and graphic design to textiles, fashion, jewellery and glass, the two-week exhibition spans every discipline in modern making and celebrates visionary design across the design spectrum.
The exhibition will give students from over 200 creative coursesa platform to showcase never-before-seen work to thousands of industry professionals and design lovers.
The event is an opportunity for career-making connections and commissions to be made, with New Designers acting as a critical bridge between design education and professional design success.
The New Designers exhibition has a 33-year history of showcasing cutting edge design, and uncovering and launching the careers of countless design stars now working in UK design.
The exhibition will be taking overthe Business Design Centre in Islingtonfrom 27-30th June and 4-7th July.
Each of the two four-day exhibitions that make up New Designers will showcasean extensive range of work by recent graduates from leading universities and design schools, but the two weeks willhighlight a different set of design disciplines.
The first week will feature innovative design across textiles, fashion, costume design, jewellery, glass, ceramics and contemporary design crafts, while the second week showcases product, furniture, automotive, interior design, graphic design, industrial design, animation, illustration, gaming and motion arts.
There will also be an exciting programme of talks, events and workshops running alongside the two-week exhibition.
The talks and workshops have been created to complement the work on display, covering a wide range of design disciplines and interests.
One of the highlights is One Year In, a curated showcase from the most promising and intriguing designers, studios and entrepreneurs that have recently launched their own businesses.
Browse and buy original pieces directly from their makers, commission bespoke works, while supporting small design companies.
This year, with more applications for selection than ever before, One Year In welcomes its biggest line-up to date. The breakthrough talents on show include product and graphic design companies, jewellery artists, illustrators, fashion designers and digital creators.
Some of the pioneering works showing this year include handcrafted ceramics from Alice Johnson, who uses traditional throwing techniques such as coiling or slabbing to create unique organic vessels, andRobert Hunter Ceramics, whose hand-fired vessels are glazed using self-sourced local materials such as seaweeds, plants, rocks, ashes and clays.
Black and white stoneware from self-taught ceramicist Bronwen Grieves has never shown publicly until now.
In a landscape where creative start-ups and design entrepreneurs abound, these are the ones to watch.
