London Craft Week kicks off today!
London Craft Week returns to the capital for its fifthedition from 8-12May 2019. Celebrating outstanding British and international creativity, this year the festival brings together over 240established and emerging makers, designers, brands and galleries from around the world.
A curated programme of events across London allows you to create your own itinerary, meet the makers and gain access to exclusive exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops.
London Craft Week reflects a global trend, with increasingly discerning visitors searching out objects of beauty and substance against a flourishing of craftsmanship worldwide. It bridges iconic heritage and contemporary brands as well as independent makers. Each year, this week-long event shines a spotlight on artists and makers and celebrates a new golden age of creative talent.
This year's highlights include:
Design hotel Sea Containers London presents an installation of sustainable furniture and accessories created in collaboration between designer Bethan Gray and natural material specialist Nature Squared, showcasing pieces made from byproducts such as scallop shells and goose feathers.
The Conran Shop welcomes silkscreen and digital printing specialist Make-Ready to its Chelsea store for a five-day live screen-printing demonstration. Over 300 Bauhaus-inspired prints will be created, including five limited-edition designs by Sascha Lobe available to collect over the week.
Wallpaper historian Allyson McDermott visits the William Morris Society to lead a wallpaper-making workshop and tour of the Emery Walker House, inspired by Morris’ original designs and Allyson’s conservation work on the wallpapers in situ.
On Duke Street in Mayfair, TedWood & Friends hosts an exhibition showcasing six artists and craftsmen who use wood to handcraft contemporary pieces that traverse function, art and design, featuring works by Ted Jefferis, Wycliffe Stutchbury, Luke Hope, Max Bainbridge, Abigail Booth and Jane Crisp.
Granby Workshop at Coal Drops Yard showcases a new collection of playful ceramic bottles, cups and jars. Handmade in Liverpool, the range consists of ten simple forms designed for everyday use, exclusively available at their pop-up shop alongside other Granby Workshop favourites.Each piece ismade by casting liquid clay in a unique system of stackable modular moulds.
