Three highlights from Maison et Objet 2018
Missed Maison et Objet this January? From sculptural pieces to out-there lighting and vibrant textiles, there was something to please everyone attheexhibition dedicated to decoration.
1. SCULPTURAL LINES AT PETITE FRITURE
Petite Friture showed curves in all the right places, from playful shelving to modern-retro seating.
DOJO BY AC/AL STUDIO
Designed by Amandine Chhor and AïssaLogerot from Paris design firm, AC/AL Studio, this set of table and chairsfeatures a curvilinear outline which is refined, elegant and fluid, reminiscentof Thonet's Bentwood chairs.
Dojo's form emphasises the contrast between the soft wood and the harsher, cooler texture of the steel, used for the chair backs and table legs.In reference to the Dōjō, a place dedicated to the study of meditation and the learning of martial arts, their collection unites structural tensions and the fluidity of the lines.
THIN COFFEE TABLE BY MAX ENRICH
This trio ofnesting steel coffee tables is a little tongue in cheek; thedelicate, geometric tabletop creating a humorous contrast when placed against the oversized, tubular legs which act as the support.
Thesquare, rectangular and triangular tables stand at different heights, nesting inside one another to create a more complex shape.
JETLAG BY LISA LAUBREAUX
A playful print by illustrator Lisa Laubreaux, this wallpaperdelivers a bold, playful, and graphic pattern, like a sort ofamalgamation of artist Keith Haring’s brush strokes and the Memphis Group’s spirit andanimation.
LOOP BY AMANDINE CHHOR
The eyecatchingLOOPshelf created byAmandine Chhortakeson newdimensions and shapes.
2. TONGUE-IN-CHEEK LIGHTING AT SELETTI
Italian design brand Seletti amazed us with playful new objects, furniture and lighting.
BANANA LAMP SCONCES BY STUDIO JOB
The Studio Job Banana is now a symbol of ironic design, a perfect representation of the designer’s relationship with a unique brand like Seletti. After three successful table versions – Huey, Dewey, and Louie – the bananas now find their place on the wall, almost like a piece of pop art.
GREY MOUSE LAMP BY MARCANTONIO
Suspended between dream and reality, the invasion of Marcantonio’s mice continues and seems unstoppable. White mice are joined by grey ones, holding coloured light bulbs as if they were on their way to a party. The grey mouse lamp is exclusively atwe interiors.
SELETTI WEARS TOILETPAPER
Seletti’s experiments in the field of upholstery perfectly match the extravagant and surreal ideas of TOILETPAPER magazine on furniture. The stand-out images created by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari become the perfect patterns for a series of upholstered furniture, poufs, and cushions that go beyond the boundaries of design and contemporary art, resulting in a perfect hybrid.
You can find Seletti at we interiors.
3. NEW MISSONI HOME TEXTILES
Right on cue for this year's maximalist trend, Missoni's sumptuous new textile collection is an explosion of colour. Their new fabric, Poppies,is as tactile as it is visual, offering matt and silky contrasts, layered embroidery and metamorphic effects. Colours bloom and swaying stems hide brightly coloured poppies and vivid butterflies.
The reversible patterns come in two colour ways; Night and Day. The natural and botanical themes are accompanied by a game of delicate flames of varying intensity, chevrons, optical inserts and geometric reliefs in Missoni's complimenting fabrics in the same range.
