There’s something so appealing about the Nestrest that you immediately want to jump right in it and swing about dreamily until, well, someone calls you in for your tea.
And it’s not just us – its Paris-based designers Daniel Pouzetand Fred Frety say they witnessed quite a few grown-ups going ‘back to childhood’ at Salone del Mobile in Milan when the design launched three years ago…
The idea for the ‘hanging cabana’ came about when the designers were asked to find an alternative to standard outdoor furniture. They were lookingfor ‘a new way to enjoy living outside, deeper in nature’ when they recollected a holiday in Costa Rica, where their kids were struck by the extraordinary hanging nests of the montezuma oropendola bird.
Some sketches and discussions later…et voilà, the cocoon-like Nestrest was born.
Woven out of a special weatherproof fibre, it’s designed to be open and private at the same time – those inside can look out, but outsiders can’t see in. Its aluminium frame is light (100kg), so it can be hung from trees and seamlessly blend in with the environment.
Climb in and curl up with a book or a loved one, crack open a bottle or meditate, you decide… There’s even a Mini Nestrest so Fido can join in too.
