From London to Morocco, these are the world's most Instagrammable spas
These stunning spas from around the world are the most photographed for Instagram
What qualities should a spa have in order to be Instagrammable? Should it have a sparkling infinity pool, a stunning natural setting among luscious greenery, or, perhaps, distinguished architecture to set it apart from the rest? We say: try all three, and more.
A spa is a space for ultimate relaxation, though to be Instagram-worthy, it should also offer plenty of inspiration for modern decorating ideas. A recent study* reveals the top five spas around the world that have it all – the looks, the relaxing credentials, and, of course, fabulous locations.
1. Ayana Resort, Indonesia
Ayana Resort and Spa in remote and beautiful Bali justly takes the top spot. We've lost count of the number of stunning pools the resort has, each of them impeccably designed and seemingly made for envy-inducing Instagram shots. If we had to pick just one, though, the Ocean Beach Pool (shown above) has some of the most stunning views anywhere in the world. The pool is perched above what the hotel refers to as 'Bali's most beautiful and secluded white sand beach', and is on the stone pathway to the iconic Rock Bar.
2. Blue Lagoon, Iceland
Iceland's Blue Lagoon is easily the country's most popular destination, and it's easy to see why. First of all, the water really is that blue, thanks to the silica suspended in the thermal pool. No trip to Iceland is truly complete without submerging yourself in these stunning blue waters. Besides, there's much more to the Blue Lagoon experience, if you're up for some luxurious pampering. The Retreat Spa offers subterranean volcanic mud treatments and a sauna, and a restaurant with gorgeous views. There's also an option to stay at the hotel on the lagoon grounds.
3. Szechenyi Baths, Hungary
Szechenyi Spa Baths in Budapest is one of Europe's grandest old spa bath houses, and has an impressive 15 indoor baths and three huge outdoor pools. The vibe is not too dissimilar to Wes Anderson's whimsical Grand Budapest Hotel, and the similarity can't have been lost on the many visitors who happily spend spa days here. It's probably not the most tranquil place on the list, but is certainly worth it even for that Instagram photo.
4. La Mamounia, Morocco
La Mamounia is a Marrakesh classic – a refined, characterful hotel that sports 'the best hotel spa in Marrakesh', no less. The black-marble, softly-lit hammams are the highlight of the indoor spa, while the outdoor pool is heated and ozone-treated. Not to mention the chance to witness a Moroccan sunset as you are swimming. Bliss.
5. Shoreditch House, London, UK
Shoreditch House will appeal to travellers who appreciate meticulous attention to detail in their rooms (the retro radios on bedside tables is a particularly nice touch), but the real star here is the rooftop pool. The heated pool offers unparalleled views of London's City, with its iconic skyscrapers. Which undoubtedly why this place is so coveted by Instagrammers. Bear in mind: this hotel is members only.
