IKEA has launched a new sensor that tests the air quality in your home
This intelligent sensor is less than $12 – and will change how you think about the air quality in your home
IKEA may have already transformed our interiors, but now, they’re improving our home’s air quality too. Yes, our favorite Scandinavian powerhouse has just launched their most sophisticated home decor device to date - a small and affordable air quality sensor.
The new VINDRIKTNING sensor measures air quality by detecting tiny inhalable particles known as PM2.5 particles. This particulate matter includes things like dust, smoke, and dirt, which we can see with the naked eye. However, it also covers other particles that are only visible under an electron microscope.
After linking the VINDRIKTNING to a separate USB-C cable and power adapter, the sensor monitors the presence of PM2.5 particles in our home by presenting a traffic-light color-coding system. If the air is good quality, the VINDRIKTNING will go green, while yellow is acceptable, and red is a problem.

If the sensor turns yellow or red, you may decide to clean the air with an air purifier. Our best air purifier guide is filled with advice on how to choose the best one to hopefully turn your VINDRIKTNING green.
This movement comes alongside IKEA’s focus on sustainability and wellbeing, as they hope the device will contribute to creating a healthier lifestyle through cleaner air at home.
And while we were skeptical about bringing a scientific device into the forefront of our interiors, IKEA has stayed true to its design-led reputation and has designed VINDRIKTNING so that it fits neatly into our homes – thanks to its discreet size and minimalist color scheme.

The sensors are selling online and in stores across the US for only $11.99 – so we have every excuse we could ever need to get involved.
We’re entering the era of better air quality – and our health and our homes will surely thank us for getting involved.
The official sales start date for the VINDRIKTNING is 7/1/21 in the U.S. Customers are encouraged to check www.ikea-usa.com to see if it becomes available in their local IKEA store sooner.
