5 interior design lessons to steal from Joe Jonas & Sophie Turner’s former Los Angeles home
The San Fernando Valley estate combines Scandinavian minimalism with a SoCal cool spirit – here is how to mirror its style in your home
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have sold their Encino estate – regarded as one of San Fernando Valley’s chicest properties – for $15.2 million (£11.2 million).
Singer Joe Jonas, who first rose to fame in the Jonas Brothers – and Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner – purchased the home in 2019 for $14.1 million before transforming the interiors alongside celebrity-designer Jae Omar.
While the couple has purchased a new home in Miami’s Bay Point neighborhood, their former Californian hangout remains a fashionable source of modern decor ideas that you can recreate in your interiors, wherever you may be. Here are five of our favorites to get started.
1. Color drench your bathroom
The aptly-named act of color drenching is among the trendiest, but nonetheless most daring, painted wall ideas of the moment – but if you remain unconvinced – this bathroom might change your mind.
The method of ‘drenching’ your space in one color may initially sound audacious. However, as Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner, and a host of paint enthusiasts share, this is not one ‘block color’ but is, instead, a curation of varying tones and saturations.
You are left with an overriding color scheme, without overwhelming your palette – and without sacrificing style.
2. Celebrate the wooden kitchen trend
With a nod to durability, versatility, and sustainability, the rise of wooden kitchens is perhaps no mystery. However, their benefits suggest that this sought-after material is more than a passing-fling – and will remain popular for many seasons ahead.
So, for an enduring investment, follow the lead of Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, and celebrate the all-wood kitchen trend by co-ordinating your floor and cabinets – then turn your kitchen invisible by concealing your appliances behind this ever-popular and wholly organic material.
3. Play with beige through different textures
We confess, we may never know if Joe and Sophie followed Kelly Hoppen's beige tips, but either way, their living room is an exemplary model of her teaching.
The esteemed reveals that the secret to bringing beige into a contemporary scheme is her 'rule of four' which involves designing a modern beige space with various textures. 'My main tip is to go for three or four different tones in a space, each a different texture, such as a bouclé with a satin, a linen, and a calico,' Kelly explains.
While these neutral tones can be hard to modernize, this Encino haven epitomizes Kelly's living room ideas – making it the perfect place to start.
4. Reflect your room’s purpose through art
Choosing artwork for a social space (such as a dining room) is often tricky. The pieces need to be provocative enough to stand as a talking point – but without detracting from the other features (and food) in the room.
However, Joe and Sophie have discovered a lighthearted balance between the two by choosing a piece that pays homage to the room it calls home.
In the dining room above, their circular dining table sits alongside a painting that celebrates food and subtly mirrors the circle through its mosaic pattern. It's the dining room idea that you will want to carry into your 2022 dinner parties – and this Los Angeles powerhouse approves.
5. Crown your hallway with a chandelier
The power of a chandelier needs no introduction. Its glittering aesthetic has blessed the most opulent of homes far beyond the West Coast, but the benefits surpass its regency.
Instead, interior experts have suggested that hanging a chandelier in your hallway will instantly make the space feel larger, especially when paired with a mirror that will reflect the light back into the room.
And while Joe and Sophie's hallway is not compact, they have reinforced how the grandeur of a chandelier has the ability to cause a statement in rooms of all sizes. First impressions count, after all.
