IKEA’s alternative to Black Friday is the sustainable idea our modern home needs
When shopping season meets Scandinavian style, it’s a match made in homes heaven
Green is the new black, according to IKEA, at least. On the fringe of Black Friday, the interiors powerhouse has launched Green Friday a Buy Back and resell offer that encourages thoughtful consumption during the traditional shopping period.
From November 19th until 29th (including Black Friday on November 26th), IKEA has announced that their ‘Family’ members will receive an additional 20 per cent on their gift card when they return their Buy Back and resell items. The result is a sustainable alternative to the consumer festival – and your home (and the planet) will thank you for getting involved.
Whether you’re looking for a blank canvas an IKEA hack, or you want to invest in a Scandi-cool statement that caught your eye this season, the buyback and resell initiative has made it even more accessible.
The ethical benefits of IKEA’s Buy Back service have already made headlines – but as one of the best Black Friday furniture deals (or rather, Green Friday deals) of the year – there is no better time to get involved.
‘During the busiest shopping period of the year, of course, we want to offer our customers a discount which they can use and benefit from, however, it’s important that we consume thoughtfully all year round,’ explains the Commercial Activities Leader, IKEA UK and Ireland, Anna Liakh.
‘We are happy to be boosting buy back gift card vouchers by 20 per cent so that customers can invest this discount into something they really need, either now or at a later date,’ she adds. So what do you need to know?
Any items you wish to return to the store must be registered between the Green Friday dates, using the estimator tool. IKEA ask that you then return the item to the store within 30 days of receiving a quote. And, while this offer is for a limited time, you don’t need to worry about spending your discount – as the gift card comes without an expiration date.
Depending on the condition of the furniture your trade-in, the voucher could be worth up to 70 per cent of the original price under the ‘Green’ Friday offer. So, while IKEA’s modern decorating idea benefits the ecosystem, it’s economically friendly, too. Happy Green Friday one and all.
