House of Hackney have rewritten everything we know about camping with these maximalist caravans
House of Hackney is inviting guests to stay in revamped retro caravans in Cornwall this summer
House of Hackney has just transformed all our conceptions about camping – thanks to retro caravans that have been transformed into a maximalist utopia, in the grounds of the Castle of Trematon in Cornwall
Designed by House of Hackney's founders, Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle, the Castle Caravans are a far cry from the conventional off-white caravan. Instead, they are a haven of overly indulgent patterns, textures, and home decor pieces that are instantly associable with the label.
While we never expected to fall head-over-heels for 1970s-style curved caravans, it's rather impossible not to lust over House of Hackney's vans that Frieda and Javvy restored into aesthetic floral sanctuaries at the Castle of Trematon, already home to House of Hackney's Hotel Trematonia.
Alongside their striking printed exteriors and patterned interiors, the caravans are decked with everything you need for an unrivaled night of slumber, including woolen duvets and a generous dollop of House of Hackney cushions, naturally.
Plus, despite its modern amenities, Frieda and Javvy were careful to accentuate the van's heritage throughout their nostalgic accessories, which offset the Cornish-inspired natural prints that envelope both the interior and exterior spaces. And if you didn't already love these caravans enough, House of Hackney also promises fresh eggs from the castle hens for a locally sourced breakfast in bed.

If anything is going to pull us away from the sheets of a Castle Caravan, it is the Cornish coastline – in all its organic glory on the fringe of the southern English coastline. Guests can marvel at this surfers kingdom in a private Jeep Renegade 4xe, which is drenched in the same pattern as your chosen caravan, because this is House of Hackney, after all.
The caravans come as an initiative to celebrate House of Hackney's tenth birthday, and in true House of Hackney style, they pay homage to the beauty of the past whilst celebrating quintessential British style – and they're surprisingly and indisputably stylish.
The Castle Caravans are available for 3-night, and 6-night minimum stays from 1st July to 22nd August 2021.
