This Holland Park home seamlessly blends retro, abstract, and nature-inspired styles
A bespoke blend of styles allows this London collection of apartments to shine
How do you decorate a home in a way that both pays homage to its environment and makes a bold design statement? The answer, in the case of this gorgeous home in Holland Park, London, is a clever and balanced blend of styles.
Retro abstraction meets tributes to nature in this modern home design by Albion Nord. Camilla Clarke, Creative Director at Albion Nord, discusses the style decisions that were made in order to achieve an exquisite look.
Camilla explains that each apartment at 80 Holland Park 'has been carefully considered, it could not be further from a ‘'one size fits all'’ approach. We strive to create meaningful spaces set apart from mass consumption.'
London's Holland Park was the natural inspiration for the design, specifically for the use of grounding, earthy green tones. Camilla also points out that the success of the design rests on juxtapositions of 'foraged, pre-loved items, contemporary and bespoke pieces alongside explosions of abstract color.'
The result are spaces that 'are not only elegant and modern, but incredibly comfortable, welcoming and ultimately, liveable.’
Natural materials, especially wood, are key to creating a decorating scheme that is stylish yet relaxed. Camilla admits to loving 'the mix of rich, earthy tones and beautiful natural materials in the scheme as they give the spaces a real sense of grounding.'
Rich and earthy isn't constrained to green, however. One of Camilla's favourite rooms in the project is the orange bedroom: 'It’s easy to shy away from bold colours in bedrooms but it works wonderfully when paired with fresh white sheets and the creamy tones of the headboard and cushions. The wall colour is a browny red tone from Edward Bulmer called Sang De Boef which is beautiful and takes on slightly different tones throughout the day. Cosy and rich in the evening and vibrant and warm in the morning.’
This deliciously warm color should take a special place in bedroom color ideas, we think.
Playing with textures is another way to blend retro and modern, nature-inspired styles. Camilla points to the bespoke headboard, which 'is covered in natural, textured boucle wool with fitted bronze wall lights from Soane for nighttime reading. We have chosen bronze metal with a metal shade. A smooth, cold material to juxtapose against the soft light boucle wool on the headboard.'
The bold abstract art on the walls creates further tension within the style. Abstraction, retro appeal, and natural inspiration converge to create a style that's completely personal to this home.
