Explore this landmark NYC penthouse located at the top of historic Steinway Hall
As far as NYC penthouses go, this one has all the bells and whistles – including a swimming pool
This NYC penthouse for sale is grand even by the Big Apple's standards. At an impressive 5,269 square feet, it's a modern home in its own right – but it also occupies the very top of Steinway Hall one of Midtown New York's most distinguished architectural and cultural landmarks.
Built in 1925, Steinway Hall was once owned by the famous Steinway piano manufacturers and even hosted the 1928 duo piano recital by Vladimir Horowitz and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
It has now been comprehensively redesigned by SHoP Architects and Studio Sofield to create a limited collection of light-filled, pre-war residences. A Steinway piano in the hallway creates a glamorous memento of the building's musical past.
The interior design combines classic and contemporary features to a timeless effect. The solid oak floors, in five-inch plank and finished in custom smoke-gray throughout, are laid in a parquet pattern.
The main lounge, grandly referred to to as 'the great room' boasts double-height, 26-foot vaulted ceilings, a gas fireplace, and arched glass doors that open onto a 1,000 square foott wraparound terrace that has not one but three aspects – south, east, and west.
No luxury has been spared where it comes to the bedrooms and adjacent bathrooms. The north gallery leads to a windowed den with west aspects, and features a full bath finished in white Silverian marble.
Two bedrooms open onto a 226-square-foot north-facing terrace and also have full baths in white Silverian marble and Cristallo Gold quartzite. The copper bath finished in nickel was custom-made by William Holland.
The upper level master suite has its own private terrace that features views of Central Park. The master suite also has its own dressing room with a marble top wet-bar. This residence truly represents living on a grand scale.
Private residential amenities include an 82ft two-lane swimming pool with cabanas, separate sauna and treatment rooms, a double-height fitness center with mezzanine terrace, private dining room and chef's catering kitchen, residents' lounge with expansive terrace, meeting rooms and study, 24-hour attended entrances and dedicated concierge service.
The Landmark Penthouse at 111 West 57th Street is on sale for $21,000,000 by Douglas Elliman.
