deVOL designed a kitchen for House of Hackney's Castle Trematon – and it's the fantastical wonderland you might expect
With emerald Zellige tiles and stylish stripy accents, this space epitomizes the best of the two British design houses
House of Hackney's Castle Trematon has just received a makeover from deVOL – and the result is a quintessentially English space that lives up to all expectations.
Founders of the (originally) London-based interiors brand Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle enlisted the help of the quintessential kitchen designers after they escaped the capital – and made a home in Castle Trematon, Cornwall.
Following the move, the couple renovated the entire estate to mirror the botanical beauty of the surrounding gardens – before enlisting the help of deVOL – and their modern kitchen ideas to design the culinary paradise.
And, while deVOL has established a global reputation for their quirky kitchen designs, House of Hackney's project was their first castle, meaning it had to be something memorable.
The kitchen consists of Classic English furniture that extends to the 14th-century ceilings and is finished with bespoke castellations for a fantastical touch. Other stand-out features include the new deVOL Dairy Table, which is inspired by the table in Lanhydrock House, a Victorian estate close to the castle.
'We love the connection and the authenticity of this piece, sitting regally amongst the French tapestry-inspired wallpaper by House of Hackney and the glamorous Italian cooker with a copper hood,' deVOL explains, in the discussion of their design ideas.
While this marble staple is something to behold, this kitchen also channels one of the biggest kitchen trends of the moment – Zellige tiles – that add a subtle Moroccan flair to this Cornish retreat.
Plus, when paired with the original parquet floor, the tiles create a simple but ambient aesthetic that adds a timeless atmosphere to the Norman room. 'As always with the best things in life, it has a little something that takes it from ordinary to extraordinary,' deVol adds.
These extraordinary touches are equally mirrored through the co-ord stripes that run throughout the space, from the curtains to the lampshades and bar-style chairs. We expect happy hour would be very happy indeed in this House of Hackney X deVOL delight.
