We never expected to find ourselves lusting over the interior of a windmill until we discovered Old Smock Windmill- a rustic but stylish retreat in rural Kent.

The windmill first came to our attention when it was featured on Channel 4's Extraordinary Escapes with Sandi Toksvig. In the series, the presenter explores some of the most remote and beautiful get-away spots. In episode two Sandi explored the luxurious windmill alongside BAFTA-winning actor and writer Jessica Hynes.

This mysterious four-story windmill combines the sophistication of a stylish townhouse with the rustic charm and timeless allure of a country retreat. The interior is also filled with nostalgic home decor that highlights the quaint character of the property further, and we want to move in at the first available opportunity.

Unfortunately, living in Old Smock is not an option. However, it is still possible to spend the night (or multiple nights, even) in the windmill, as the property is currently listed on Airbnb, meaning staycations in the UK are about to get a whole lot more memorable.

The interior of the windmill is a floral-filled circular kingdom that pays homage to trendy cottagecore style, with elegant soft furnishings, and a welcome basket that includes freshly baked bread and eggs from the owner’s chicken, in case this wasn’t already the sweetest place on the planet.

Nestled among this wooden kingdom is one bedroom and one bathroom, complete with a free-standing bath. You will also find quaint reminders of its industrial past, with preserved wooden beams that span across each floor that expose the history of this former working mill.

The mill is listed on Airbnb as a ‘romantic property' that is best suited to couples who are looking to escape to England’s south-east coast.

Further original features include its authentic exposed brick walls that surround the log-burning fire and a giant spur wheel and sack hoist, which set the property aside from any other accommodation on the market.

Old Smock’s individual charm continues upstairs to its oak balcony, which encircles the entire mill. Here you can stretch on the outdoor furniture and enjoy the view across the verdant kingdom of Benenden.

You’ll also wake up just a short hop from High Weald, a certified Area of Natural Beauty, but we would completely understand if you’d rather dream the day away from this organic haven.
