KITCHEN
After living in Singapore for five years, the owners of this house, are looking forward to their first 'proper' Christmas back home in the UK. Their new Victorian home feels far more fitting for the festive season– a double-fronted gem that’s been extended, reconfigured, dusted off and decked out in an atmospheric mix of deep blues, shimmering teals and gleaming gold and bronze. It’s now ready to play the handsome Christmas host to the family of five.
But first, a major overhaul was needed. The couple hired Qualitas to take care of the redesign and construction, which eventually extended over all four floors. On the ground floor, a dated layout meant that the area at the rear was squandered on a storage cupboard and a WC. And true to their Victorian roots, the rooms lacked any sense of openness or flow. This included the kitchen, which was a narrow room at the side of the house that overlooked a brick wall and had no view out to the garden.
Now, a bold expanse of Crittall glazing serves as a third wall at the rear of the house, drawing light into the ground floor. The owners knew they wanted this colour scheme in the kitchen from the get go. Style additions such as the brick wall and the canary yellow stools came later, giving a kick of vibrancy that lifts the whole look.
STUDY
An L-shaped kitchen-diner works as a sociable space, while an internal glass wall opens into a study, a jewel-box of a roomthat feels more opulent than your average work area.

FAMILY ROOM
The owners were drawn to the Asian feel of this geometric wall art, but also love that it feels quite Christmassy too.
LIVING ROOM
The op-art meets animal print rug adds a dash of humour to the sophisticated space.
Warm metallics and rich blues rule in the living spaces, while the more urban, stripped- back textures of brick, steel and bronze keep the kitchen-diner feeling contemporary.
DOWNSTAIRS CLOAKROOM
The Cole & Son wallpaper evokes a taste of the tropics.
HALLWAY
With the help of interior designer Nicola Hicks, the owners added a fresh tile pattern to the floor.
The new floor echoes a Victorian style, but the owners wanted the colours 'zinged' for modern life.
MASTER BEDROOM
The green hued paint shade was chosen for the relaxed feel it gives as you walk in.
The couple reinstated the fireplaces, cornicing and other period features.
MASTER ENSUITE
Decorative trims frame this bathing space, from the detailed cornicing to the tile border and a subtle ribbon that runs around the base of the roll-top bath.
TEEN BEDROOM
The owners spotted this wallpaper on a Livingetc house tour before the family had moved back, so when their daughter said she wanted a turquoise room it was an obvious choice.
