Look within: creating a Dulux Heritage paint palette that draws on your memories will always lead to beautiful schemes
Florist Iona Mathieson has picked a mood-boosting palette of paints from the new Dulux Heritage range – here she reveals the beautiful inspiration behind it
When it comes to curating a colour palette, a florist knows a thing or two. ‘We pride ourselves on creating unique arrangements that fill rooms with colour and joy,’ says Iona Mathieson when asked about the style of Sage Flowers, the cool, south London florists she founded alongside Romy St Clair.
Iona is the final tastemaker in Dulux Heritage’s Evoke Your Senses series, which is all about bringing a feeling of beauty to your home with paints, not only formulated from the finest ingredients, but that give such a sumptuous, velvety matt finish that they pull on your senses. ‘These paints aren’t just visually stunning but they are beautiful to touch as well as look at,’ Iona says.
For her Dulux Heritage palette, Iona wanted to evoke the fresh scents and alluring feel of an English garden, as well as creating a backdrop for her beautiful, colorful floral arrangements. Here, we visit her palette inspiration, handpicked from Dulux Heritage's 112 exquisite colors, in more detail.
Feast for the senses
As one of three tastemakers to curate a colour palette as part of the Dulux Heritage Evoke Your Senses series, florist Iona Mathieson was instantly drawn to the more delicate and natural hues in the Dulux Heritage range.
Her chosen colours – Pale Olivine, Fennel White, Mallow White and Powder Colour – recall the atmosphere of an English garden. ‘The palette, which we’ve called Florist, evokes romance and summer weddings and reminds me of sweet-smelling roses and sweet peas,’ she says.
Like with flower arranging, the beauty of the Dulux Heritage range is the creativity and personality that comes from curating colour groupings – and with a collection of 112 colours to choose from, the possibilities are endless. You can order a complimentary color card to start narrowing down your choices and defining your own palette, too.
Look within
The Dulux Heritage palette that Iona decided upon is a reflection of her floristry flair. It captures the essence of her contemporary creations, while also depicting a natural feel with shades that calm and relax.
‘It is a beautiful mix of pastel pink, light olive green and baby blue,’ she says. ‘I was inspired by one of our favourite floristry projects and the colours of the flowers we used in weddings last year.’
Looking within for shades that draw personal, evocative sensations and memories will always result in beautiful schemes.
A delight in many ways
You’ll quickly realise how easy it is to create the perfect selection of shades when you explore the collection of Dulux Heritage hues. Beautifully timeless, the colours have been masterfully curated by Dulux colourists, reflecting over 90 years of colour expertise.
And being made with the finest ingredients, you can be sure the finish you get will deliver high on performance, as well as be beautiful looking. ‘The paints leave a wonderfully velvet matt finish,’ says Iona. It’s practically strokeable and evokes the sense of touch. Similar, in some ways, to the velvety soft feeling of stroking a rose petal.
Be creative
So how can you bring tantalising colour that feels as good as it looks to your own home? Iona says just go for it, but also advises to ‘think about what you’ll have filling the rooms, such as soft furnishings, books, vases and accessories. Then consider what will complement those.’
Also just let the colours from the collection steer you. If you look at the complementary colour cards, found at Dulux Heritage, you’ll find that you are pulled to certain shades. The way the card is organised based on tones mean you'll be drawn to the area that suits your mood, and easily be able to pair hues that work together well. ‘And don’t be afraid to go a little wild,’ muses Iona. ‘Colour is great!’
