Quick menu
Looking for the best sleeper sofas? The way we use our homes has changed significantly. As such multifunctional sofa beds have come into their own, allowing our homes to adapt when required.
Rather than creating a dedicated guest bedroom that's rarely used, adding a sofa bed to a home office or living room allows for better day-to-day use of your square footage and easy adaptation when guests come to stay. A sofa bed can also be the perfect solution for kid's sleepovers.
The new breed of stylish sleeper sofas can also make a space-saving solution for small homes and apartment dwellers who want to entertain guests for more than one evening.
Our edit of the best couches will point you in the right direction for design-led pull-out, fold down, trundle and sectional sleeper sofas, from the best home decor stores.

Available in a choice of earth-toned upholstery options: four sumptuous velvets or four performance fabrics, the Lotte couch is one of the best green sofas, and has a refined look that disguises the fact it's housing a pull-out queen sized sleeper mattress. It's a compact 73"W x 39"D x 32"H too.
Price: $3,640
This beautiful velvet button-tufted piece has a high tuxedo back that gives it an elegant yet formal presence that would perfectly suit a home office that doubles as a guest room. Smooth glide mechanisms make the switch from seating to sleeping a breeze.

2. Best fold down sleeper sofa beds

This stylish sleeper is offered in gray or ivory upholstery and looks just like a primary sofa, so would suit an apartment living room. It simply folds down into a bed when you need it to, whether that's for guests or afternoon naps.

The stylish leather straps on this design from Mermelada Estudio aren't just for decoration. Unbuckle them and Alesso's cushion folds out to reveal a foam mattress that sleeps two. Choose from an attractive array of neutral and colored upholstery options.

This elegant piece could easily pass as a regular grey sofa. However, with a simple push pull mechanism its multi-purpose back folds down flat and converts into a bed - or part of the way into a lounger. Choose grey, light grey, green, navy or mustard upholstery.
3. Best trundle-style sleeper sofa beds
Price: $2,698
Denver's sleep area is lifted out by two handles, which can be completely tucked away when it's in sofa mode. We love the edging on the back and arm pillows, which give it a casual laid-back look that would work well in a sun room, guest room or den.
Price: $3,899
The trundle mattress on the Bedford is discreetly disguised as a front rail. It can be pulled out for a lower single trundle bed, or pulled out further as a full bed for two. It's available in over 200 upholstery options and can be disassembled to fit through narrow spaces.
Price: from $7,095
At H34" x W96" x D38", the Reid sleeper sofa delivers spacious lounging. It's easy to convert from seat to sleeping space too, the sofa seat simply lifts and pulls forwards trundle-style whilst the backrest folds down to form the sleeping area. There are scores of upholstery options too.
4. Best sectional sleeper sofa beds
Price: $5,598
Made to order with a choice of over 56 upholstery options (including pet-friendly fabrics) and three leg finishes, the Tuxedo is a flexible and versatile piece, concealing a queen size bed for guests within its frame.

Not only does this sleek sofa conceal a sleep space, it has hidden storage in the chaise for extra bedding too. It requires some self-assembly, so you can choose to build the chaise on the left or the right and switch around as and when you need to.

We love the added storage element with this sleeper sectional. It's perfect for storing the guest duvet and pillows. As well as over 100 upholstery options, there's a choice of standard or memory foam mattress too.
Is it ok to sleep on a sofa bed every night?
If it were a temporary situation, but we wouldn't recommend sleeping on a sofa bed for the long term, if you have other options. The mattresses are slimmer and don't have the same support as a regular mattress made for a bed.
'There’s certainly no judgment, but it’s not the most comfortable option out there,' says Heather Goerzen, design director at online interiors studio, Havenly. 'Sofa beds are designed more with guests in mind and infrequent use, and won’t hold up as well to a regular night routine.'
