Le Corbusier for Nemo Parliament Floor Lamp | £950 at The Conran Shop
Highlight your interior with Le Corbusier’s Parliament Floor Lamp, originally designed in 1963 for the Chandigarh Parliament and now manufactured by Nemo. What do we love most about this design? Aside from the fab choice of colourways, the fact that this light boasts two interchanging light diffusers is pretty impressive. This means it can light both your ceiling and your floor at the same time, and you can move the lights to point whichever direction you prefer. Point the large light source upwards for dramatic effect, point it to the floor to better illuminate a dark corner, or point it at your desk to help you focus. Plus, both lights are dimmable. It's a stunning and very clever design.

We love the matte finish of the floor lamp's shade – which beautifully contrasts with the brass stem.

How to choose a floor lamp

Not sure what type of lamp you should go for? Follow these easy tips to make the choice easier.

Size
Probably the most important consideration is the size of floor lamp you need. Huge, statement pieces like arc floor lamps look their best in larger spaces and can look quite odd in a smaller lounge. If you have a small space, consider getting several smaller floor lamps and dot them around the corner of the room; they don’t need to all match. Mixing and matching floor lamps with table lamps will make your lounge look more relaxed, while just floor lamps will give the room a more formal look.

Material
Most floor lamps are made from a combination of a metal base and a fabric shade. We recommend choosing a floor lamp that has a true fabric shade, whether it’s cotton or polyester. Avoid plastic shades as they can look cheap. To give your lounge a contemporary or industrial look, opt for an all-metal floor lamp.
