The Livingetc edit of Next Home – the summer buys we are lusting after right now
With spring (almost) making an appearance, we are turning our sights to summer and how to give every room a refresh for the warmer months
It’s that time of year when we get really excited about the new Spring/Summer product launches. We know, we know, the British weather remains monotonously grim, but mentally we are already in the warmer months – hazy balmy evenings, blue skies, greenery, soft florals, alfresco dinner parties, the lot. And Next’s brand new homeware collection is really feeding our need for warmer climes.
Think floaty fabrics, deep hot hues that seem to radiate warmth and all those lovely textured materials like rattan, seagrass and jute. Dreamy dreamy stuff that’s going to have you longing for summer. And not that we ever need an excuse to shop, but a change in season is a great time to have a quick refresh. Switch out cushions for lighter hues and spring-inspired patterns, change your curtains from heavy wintery fabrics to blousy, light-weight materials, or invest in new furniture to give your rooms a whole new look. And don’t forget about the garden! We promise times will come again that you’ll be sipping Spritz outside so get your outdoor space ready for that by updating your garden furniture and accessories too.
Feeling inspired for a spring/summer refresh? We’ve picked our favourite looks from Next Home’s new collection to help you get your home ready for the change in seasons (it’s coming, we promise…)
You can’t look at this living room without feeling instantly warmer. That lovely zingy coral and the plush velvet. This is the Houghton sofa and for the new collection it’s been given a smart crisp update with a slimmer arm, a more tailored finish. Let’s not ignore the chase sideboard, its definitely up there with our top favourite pieces – cool panelled wood fronts give a room a ton of texture, and a slight mid-century modern edge. The Trueman chair then lends a 70's slouchy vibe which is echoed in the Unique craft coffee table's internal curve details.
The bedroom is one of our favourite rooms to update for spring/summer, mostly because it's so easy to make small switches that make the space feel totally different. We love the blue used here – Shadow blue is the perfect way to describe it, not too dark and dramatic but with more power than a sky blue. It’s calming but also cocooning. The shapes going on in this space add just as much interest as the colour. The Mylo bed, featuring the so important Scandi influenced curves with side panels only adds to the cosiness created by the blues. And the Mylo chair also has curves in all the right places. The soft cosy boucle fabric again echoes the Scandi vibe and comes in cream and charcoal. It's the perfect size for a bedroom – compact but still comfy.
Loving all the layers of textures and materials going on in this dining room. We love how there’s lots of, let’s call it… natural, messy shapes and textures going on, like the Pacific Lighting Molokai Natural Woven Cloche Pendant and the Tahiti Chairs, but then you’ve also got the modern take on texture with the vertical details of the Elmir round slatted wood table and Hester natural woven front cabinet.
Does garden furniture get more chic than this? We’d happily have this set up in our living room, and actually the Stockholm collection is suitable for both indoors and out, so in the winter months you can still get use from them inside. There’s a sophisticated Mid-century style here, with woven faux leather, on a painted metal frame. It’s a very sleek architectural look that you actually don’t see all too often with garden furniture. Paired here with a monochrome outdoor rug there’s a real outdoor living room feel that’s becoming more and more popular.
